This article continues my series about essential elements of LinkedIn and will outline seven essential LinkedIn Applications. A list of all articles in the “LinkedIn Seven Series” can be found here.
Here’s the list of seven essential LinkedIn Applications:
- Company Buzz — This application allows you to monitor what is being said about you, your company, your products or your competitors on Twitter. You can also use this tool to monitor specific search terms that are interesting to you.
- Events — The Events application allows you to create events, invite your connections and monitor who will be attending. You can also search for events that you like to attend. Also, LinkedIn just added a feature that allows you to see the events that your connections will be attending. You may find this new feature helpful if you want to learn more about the people with whom you are connected.
- Tweets — You can use this application to access Twitter information directly from your LinkedIn account. You can see information from your Twitter followers, view your past tweets and update your Twitter status. This application makes it simple to follow all of your LinkedIn connections on Twitter.
- Blog Links — LinkedIn has two applications to connect content from popular blogging sites to your LinkedIn account. TypePad-powered Blog Link lets you connect your TypePad blog to your LinkedIn account. Using this application, your profile will display posts from your blog and your contact’s blogs. Blog Link supports TypePad’s content and several other blogging platforms. You can also use the WordPress LinkedIn Application to link your WordPress blog to your LinkedIn profile.
- Reading List — This Amazon-sponsored application allows you to share your current reading list with your LinkedIn contacts. In addition, it allows you to see a list of books that are being read by members of your network and your industry.
- Presentations — LinkedIn offers two presentation applications. Google Presentation allows you to add a presentation to your LinkedIn profile. This lets you showcase a recent talk, showcase your expertise and display a portfolio of your work. SlideShare Presentations can be used to connect your LinkedIn network with Slideshare.com. It allows you to see presentations posted to SlideShare by your LinkedIn connections, view your Slidespace from within LinkedIn and upload content to SlideShare. This is a great tool to help you learn more about your contacts.
- Collaboration — LinkedIn has three applications that allow you to collaborate with others. Box.Net Files is a file-sharing site and can be connected to your LinkedIn profile. You can upload files from within LinkedIn, post files to your profile and share files with your LinkedIn connections. Projects and Teamspaces by Manymoon and Huddle Workspaces are applications that allow you to create online workspaces and share them with your LinkedIn connections.
LinkedIn applications can help you get a lot more from your LinkedIn. I would encourage you to try a few of these applications and see what you can learn about the people in your network. You just might be able to impress a client or business contact with information you learned about them via a LinkedIn application.
