TIGTA criticizes the IRS on conference overspending
In the latest in a series of bad news days for the IRS, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) issued a report June 4 on the IRS's wasteful spending on conferences.
Taxpayer can contest trust fund penalty where son tossed Letter 1153 into basement
A taxpayer successfully challenged the IRS's filing of a notice of federal tax lien against him for a trust fund recovery penalty on the basis that he did not have an opportunity to contest the liability on which the assessment underlying the lien was based.
Supreme Court declines to hear Historic Boardwalk rehabilitation credit case
The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to review the Third Circuit Court of Appeals' decision in Historic Boardwalk Hall, LLC. The LLC was created to redevelop Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall and pass the historic rehabilitation credits it qualified for to a corporate investor.
Supreme Court resolves circuit split on creditability of U.K. tax
In a unanimous decision that resolved a split among the federal circuit courts of appeals, the U.S. Supreme Court held that the United Kingdom's windfall profits tax is a tax that is eligible for the foreign tax credit.
