Assistant Secretary of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration

Phyllis C. Borzi is Assistant Secretary of Labor of the Employee Benefits Security Administration, which oversees nearly 708,000 private-sector retirement plans, approximately 2.8 million health plans and a similar number of other welfare benefit plans that provide benefits to approximately 150 million Americans. As agency head, she oversees the administration, regulation and enforcement of Title I of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

Her previous roles include research professor in George Washington University Medical Center’s School of Public  Health and Health Services, and of counsel with O’Donoghue & O’Donoghue LLP, specializing in ERISA and other legal issues affecting employee benefit plans.
