  • CGMA exam candidates: Accountants worldwide must pass the same case study exam in order to obtain the CGMA designation. The courses in this track align directly with topics tested on the CGMA exam, and can be used to prepare for the exam.

Learning Objectives

When you complete this course, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate strategic targets through the development of critical success factors (CSFs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Recognize appropriate strategic targets through the use of a range of financial and non-financial measures of strategic importance and their interaction with financial ones
  • Identify alternative models of measuring strategic performance (e.g., the Balanced Scorecard [BSC] and the performance pyramid as strategic evaluation tools)
  • Identify alternative strategic business unit (SBU) performance measures, including shareholder value added (SVA) and economic value added (EVA)
  • Recognize the importance of effective communication of strategic performance targets and the role of the Management Accountant in the process of strategic performance evaluation
  • Recognize the impact of information technology and information systems (IT/IS) on an organization and its strategy, including Big Data, e-business and the internet
  • Recall key supply chain management concepts
  • Identify ways to analyze the customer portfolio, including customer profitability and behavior, and customer retention and loyalty
  • Identify ways to build strategic alliances with stakeholders
  • Identify the types of change, including adaptive, evolutionary, reconstructive, and revolutionary changes
  • Recognize the impact of change on organizational culture and identify the tools, techniques and models associated with organizational change
  • Identify approaches, styles and strategies of change management and recognize the role of the change leader in effective strategic communication
  • Identify key aspects of change leadership, including group and team formation, team building, and using change agents
  • Perform executive mentoring and coaching to promote effective change leadership
  • Calculate ratios relevant for the assessment of an entity's profitability, financial performance, financial position and financial adaptability
  • Evaluate the financial performance, financial position and financial adaptability of an entity based on the information contained in the financial statements provided
  • Recognize the limitations of ratio analysis
