1. What is an eBook?

An eBook is an electronic/digital version of a printed book, although some eBooks are exclusively digital. Your eBook will include all content that is available in the printed publication and possibly additional items, such as web page links and interactive content. On occasion, an eBook may also contain updated content that became available after the printed version of the book went to press.

2. How soon after purchasing an eBook can I begin using it?

You can begin using your eBook immediately after your online purchase. If you pre-order an eBook, its link will appear on the My Downloads page once the eBook has been published.

3. How do I access an eBook?

Once you have purchased your eBook, navigate to the My Purchases area on the AICPAStore.com. The link to your eBook will be included under the My Downloads section. Click on the eBook title to follow a link to Bookshelf.

Once you are redirected to Bookshelf, you can sign up for an account to be able to read your eBook online or download the eBook to your desktop, tablet, or mobile device. To use the eBook on a device, you must first download the free Bookshelf app. Click here for app download instructions.

4. How do I set up my account?

After clicking on your book title, you will click on the “Sign In” or “Sign Up” links on the first page. Follow the steps below depending on whether you are a new or returning Bookshelf user.

5. Where can I find resources on how to best use the eBook?

VitalSource has video tutorials and documentation for getting started with Bookshelf on its support site.

6. Do I need to sign up for a VitalSource Bookshelf account?

Yes, you will need to create an account in order to download the eBook to your desktop, tablet, or mobile device. This will also allow you to access your eBooks directly through VitalSource. Links to the online eBook expire after one year. If you decide to skip that step when you first access your eBook, you can create an account later and still have access as long as it is within the 365-day timeframe.

7. Can I print or copy and paste my eBooks?

You have permission to copy, paste, and print up to 15 consecutive pages at one time. Note that some restrictions may vary per eBook publication.

8. Why are there restrictions on the number of pages I can print, copy, or paste at any single time?

To protect the rights of authors and publishers, most eBooks limit how much text you can copy, paste, and print.

9. What are the supported devices and system requirements for eBooks?

Operating Systems:

10. How many devices can be authorized for accessing my eBooks?

VitalSource Bookshelf allows for two computers and mobile devices activated at any given one time on your account. If you are activating a new computer or mobile device and receive the error message: "You have Reached your Machine Activation Limit" you will need to deauthorize an older computer or mobile device in order to activate a new one.

11. How long do I have access?

You will have online access for one year from your date of purchase. If you have created an account on Bookshelf and have downloaded your eBook, you will be able to access your eBook indefinitely.

12. What is the return/refund policy for eBooks?

If you are not satisfied with your eBook for any reason, please contact the Association Service Center at 1.888.777.7077 (9am–6pm ET, Monday–Friday) or service@aicpa.org within 14 days of your purchase date. We will refund the full purchase price as long as no more than 20% of the eBook has been read (based on usage statistics).

13. Where can I find the User Agreement?

Prior to completing your eBook purchase, you will be prompted to read and accept the terms and conditions of the End User License Agreement. To read the document now, go to eBooks End User License Agreement.

14. What are the main features of the product?

The eBook allows you to add notes, highlight the text, and share notes and highlights. It includes a search tool as well as multimedia links accessible right from the eBook.

Using VitalSource Bookshelf’s apps, you can read on your desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile device. You can also download the text to your device for offline reading.

15. Are there any copyright or distribution restrictions for eBooks?

Yes. Copyright and distribution law and all associated restrictions apply universally to both printed paper books and eBooks. The following are some of the more important copyright and distribution restrictions you should know:

At this time, orders for eBooks can be placed only online through the AICPA Store. Phone and paper orders for eBooks are not accepted at this time.

You cannot give away an eBook or transfer the user rights to another individual, group, or organization if it has been purchased under your name. eBooks cannot be shared with your staff. Each member of your staff must purchase and download a separate copy of the eBook.

You are not allowed to sell, lend, or distribute your eBook to another user, group or organization.

You cannot republish or market an eBook. You cannot distribute an eBook as a free promotional item or sell it for a profit.
